Dave Whitty

Dave Whitty

Dave Whitty is a singer/songwriter from St. John’s, NL. Dave has released 3 solo albums since 2012 and is currently in the studio working on his 4th. His music reflects the pride he has for his home province, capturing Newfoundland’s joie de vivre and beauty. Dave writes and sings about real-life experiences; his folky storytelling style tells tales woven through playful lyrics and infectious melodies about his relationships and his unique perspective. With over 15 years of experience playing live shows, he has molded a one-of-a-kind vibe. His song writing combines a distinctly East Coast sound with modern themes that resonate with audiences. Dave’s guitar style is another part of his music that makes him unique. Self-taught, he uses a mixture of strumming, flat-picking, and fingerpicking, which, after just a couple of notes, is immediately recognizable as Dave’s. Listen to his latest release here

Maria Cherwick

Maria Cherwick

Maria Cherwick is a violinist, violist and fiddler based in St. John’s NL. Since completing her Masters in Music at Memorial University, Maria has enjoyed a diverse career as a performer, from sitting Assistant Principal Viola in the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, to touring internationally with her Ukrainian speed-folk band, The Kubasonics.

Maria’s tours with The Kubasonics have taken her across Canada, Eastern Europe, and even the Caribbean, while many other projects have taken her across Newfoundland and Labrador, and Atlantic Canada, including tours with Flower Hill, Sherman Downey, Rube & Rake, and The Old Contemporaries. In 2019, Maria was a featured soloist during the Canadian Bandurist Capella’s “Crossroads” Canadian tour, and she participated in two national tours with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 2011 and 2014.

Equally as comfortable in trad, folk, country and bluegrass scenes, Maria can be found regularly gigging and recording around downtown St. John’s. In 2018, she was the first female artist named MusicNL’s “Side Musician of the Year”, and she earned that title again, as well as “Celtic/Traditional Artist of the Year” in 2021.  Maria has recently released her first solo studio album “Home From Away”.
